About the Department
The Department of Microbiology was established in the College of Basic Sciences with its establishment in the year 1991. It was strengthened by transferring the Microbiologists posted elsewhere in the University in 1995 with the simultaneous introduction of the M.Sc. programme in the discipline of Microbiology.
The Project Coordinator Unit of All India Coordinated Research Project on "Microbiological Decomposition and Recycling of Organic Wastes", funded by the ICAR, New Delhi was also placed in the Department till it was shifted to Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal in the year 1998.
The Ph.D. programme in the department was started in 2006-07. Department is also engaged in looking after the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of the University.
