About the College

  • Welcome to College of Basic Sciences.

In the College of Basic Sciences our endeavour has been to provide the students an opportunity to strike a healthy balance between curricular and co-curricular activities. The highly qualified teaching faculty is committed to fulfill our commitment to generate knowledgeable society by imparting quality teaching and providing sustainable research support.

Started as a Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities with the inception of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, it attained the status of a full-fledged College in the year 1991. Presently, the College of Basic Sciences constitutes four departments and one Centre of Geoinformatics, as follows:

    • Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences
    • Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
    • Department of Microbiology
    • Department of Physical Sciences and Languages
    • Center of Geo-informatics Research and Training

The College is running two undergraduate programmes i.e.
    • BSc Physical Sciences and
    • BSc Life Sciences
besides providing teaching support to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of all other constituent Colleges (College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, College of Community Science) of the University.

Participation in either National Cadet Core (NCC) or National Service Scheme (NSS) by every student who enrol in our Undergraduate Programmes is mandatory. Students are also encouraged to participate actively in sports, athletics, literary and other intra and inter University co-curricular activities. The faculty and the students also involve themselves in various State and National programmes organized at the College and University level. Organization of National Science Day, World Environment Day, Earth Day, Communal Harmony Week, and Teacher's Day are some of the regular features of the College.

The College campus has a perfect ambience against the backdrop of the majestic Dhauladhar range of Himalayas. The buildings housing different departments and laboratories are renovated and modernized. The College boasts a range of essential facilities including a well-equipped Central Instruments Laboratory, Examination Hall with smart classrooms, a Herbal Garden, a Bamboo Block, and a Vermi-composting Unit. These resources efficiently support the University's academic needs, encompassing teaching, research, extension education, and other academic endeavors.
