National Space Day-2024: “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga”
The College of Basic Sciences at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV) celebrated National Space Day-2024 with an inspiring theme, “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga.” The event, held with great enthusiasm and participation, highlighted India's remarkable achievements in space exploration and its impact on society.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Naveen Kumar praised the College of Basic Sciences for taking the lead in celebrating National Space Day-2024. He encouraged students to actively participate in the celebrations and delve deeper into the fascinating world of spatial sciences.
The day’s events included a highly engaging quiz competition that tested students’ knowledge of India’s space history and achievements. The celebrations extended to the national level with an online event streamed via YouTube, drawing participants and viewers from across the country.
A special highlight was a invited lecture by Prof. Hum Chand from Central University Himachal Pradesh. His lecture, centred on the theme "Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India's Space Saga," captivated the audience and provided deep insights into India’s space missions and their significance.
Dr. Sharda Singh, Dean of the College of Basic Sciences, played a pivotal role in organizing the various activities. She emphasized the importance of space sciences and encouraged students to explore the endless possibilities in this exciting field. The event was coordinated by Dr. Rishi Mahajan and Dr. Manjula Sharma under the aegis of the Science Club of Basic Sciences, ensuring the smooth execution of all activities. The lecture was sponsored under a ICAR scheme with Dr Abhishek Walia.
The Quiz winners were the team comprising of Riya Kaushal and Anchal who are perusing B.Sc. Hons. in Physical Sciences. The runner up team comprised of Alisha and Kashish. Team which bagged the third position was of Stuti Sharma and Gokila. The winning teams were awarded certificates by Dr. Sharda Singh, Dean of the College of Basic Sciences.
National Space Day-2024 at CSKHPKV was a memorable celebration, fostering a sense of pride in India's space endeavours and inspiring the next generation of scientists and explorers.
Plant for Mother : global campaign
"Ek ped maa ke naam" Plant for Mother global campaign has been celebrated on 21st August, 2024 in the premises of College of Basic Sciences in the presence of Dean, CoBS, teaching, non teaching staff and students. Students and staff have planted trees and taken pledge for clean and green environment.

Surgery and Radiology, COVAS** delivered a talk on topic entitled *"Motivation is a key to Success"*.

Anti-Ragging awareness week was observed in College of Basic Sciences
Under the guidance and blessings of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya Palampur, Dr Naveen Kumar and support of respected Dean, College of Basic Science Dr Sharda Singh; Anti -raggindg Day was observed today i.e.on 12-08-2024 at Cobs Cskhpkv Palampur. Programme coordinator Dr-Manjula Sharma and committee members Dr Abhishek Walia , Mr Arun Kumar Patyal , Dr Abhishek Singh Guleria , Sourabh Koundal, Isha Saklani coordinated the activities of the day.
Today an Induction/Orientation programme on Anti-ragging awareness was organized for first year students. Dr Usha Rana, Head Deptt of Biology and Environment Sciences and Dr Sheela Thakur, Academic incharge cum Tutor of B. Sc. First year also attended the anti ragging orientation programme and interacted with students.
Students were also shown documentary movies on anti-ragging awareness/information.
Anti-Ragging awareness week was also observed from 12-18th August, 2024.

Deeksharambh- Student's Induction cum orientation programme for first year student of Academic year 2024-2025 had been organized by College of Basic Sciences from 01 -03, August 2024. The College of Basic Sciences has started Tutorial Lecture Series under SC -Sub Plan scheme promoted by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and funded by ICAR, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India to prepare SC students for National and International competitions, languages and upliftment of their personality and knowledge under the Agriculture Division Plan scheme” Strengthening & Development of Higher Agricultural Education in India through online and offline lectures from eminent experts in various fields. In this Series second lecture has been organized by Dr. Abhishek Walia, Coordinator, SC-Sub Plan under the guidance of Dean, College of Basic Sciences Dr. Sharda Singh on *"Awaken the 'Power' within you"* . Guest speaker for the lecture was *Dr. *(Mrs.) Saroj Thakur** , Associate Professor from National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur. HP. Dean CoBS, Heads of Departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of the College of Basic Sciences have participated in the lecture series and truly inspired and motivated by the lecture.

College of Basic Sciences, CSK HPKV Celebrated World Environment Day (5 June 2024) with Focus on Land Restoration, Deforestation, and Drought Resilience
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. D.K. Vatsa was the Chief Guest, in the celebrations of World Environment Day organised by College of Basic Sciences, with great enthusiasm, focusing on the critical theme of "Land Restoration, Deforestation, and Drought Resilience". The event featured Dr. Amit Guleria, HAS, Additional Director (AYUSH), Government of Himachal Pradesh, as the invited speaker on the theme.
The celebrations began with a series of engaging activities, including declamation and poster-making competitions, where students showcased their knowledge and creativity on the theme. The winners in Declamation were Divyanshu Dogra, Ist, Varnika Saroch 2nd and Akash rajak 3rd and Poster Competition were Isha Saklani 1st, Isha 2nd and Anshika 3rd. A workshop on Vermicomposting was also organised for the students by Dr Radhika Sharma.
Dr. Amit Guleria delivered an insightful talk, emphasizing the importance of land restoration, the consequences of deforestation, and the need for building drought resilience. He highlighted the ongoing efforts and potential strategies to address these pressing environmental issues. In his address, Dr. Guleria stressed the role of education and community involvement in fostering a sustainable environment.
Dr. D.K. Vatsa, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering, underscoring the significant role that CSK HPKV is playing in promoting land restoration, preventing deforestation, and enhancing drought resilience through its various initiatives and research programs. He encouraged students and faculty to continue their efforts in making a positive impact on the environment. Dr. D.K. Vatsa visited the Herbal Garden established in the College of Basic Sciences and planted a sapling. He also inaugurated the “Digi Shala” through DTH.
Dr. Sharda Singh, Dean of the College of Basic Sciences, apprised the guests and audience about the various activities and projects being undertaken by the College and the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences. She highlighted the collaborative efforts and research aimed at addressing environmental challenges and contributing to sustainable development.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving the audience inspired and motivated to take action towards preserving and restoring our environment.

The students during Educational tour visited MNIT Jaipur, Jantar Mantar, Maharana Pratap Museum at Haldighati, City Palace Museum Udaipur, Jaisalmer Fort museum, Agriculture University, Jodhpur and Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

College of Basic Sciences celebrated National Science Day on 28th February on theme "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat"
College of Basic Sciences celebrated National Science Day on 28th February on theme "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat" as released by DST, Govt. of India in Collaboration with HIMCOSTE Shimla HP. Various competitive events between all constituent colleges of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya and lecture series were organized for celebrations of National Science Day.
In this series lecture on theme "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat" has been delivered by Dr. Ashwani Kumar Rana, Associate Professor, NIT Hamirpur (HP) and Prant President Vigyan Bharti, on 23-02-2024 at college of Basic Sciences.
Respected Dean Dr Sharda Singh welcomed the invited speaker and motivated and inspired the students to imbibe the scientific temperament and vision through these lecture series.
Dr Ashwani highlighted the importance developing swadesi technology and techniques for achieving the dream of Viksit Bharat. He motivated students to develop small innovative technologies in order to make Bharat Viksit. He narrated the story of Sir C. V. Raman, Radhanath Sikdar and other Indian Scientist in his talk to motivate and inspire students.
Students also interacted with Dr Ashwani Kumar Rana Sir to resolve their scientific curiosities.
In this series an online lecture was organized on 22-02-2024 at college of Basic Sciences. Dr R. R. Sharma, retired Professor from deptt. of Mathematics, HPU Shimla delivered an lecture on Fuzzy Logics related to Artificial Intelligence.
In addition to these Quiz Competiton and Rangoli Competiton were organized on 20-02-2024 at college of Basic Sciences.

Vice Chancellor Dr.D.K.Vatsa inaugurated National Mathematics Day at CSKHPAU: National Mathematics Day was celebrated at the College of Basic Sciences.
Chief Guest Dr. D.K. Vatsa, Vice Chancellor CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of mathematics and its significant role in numerous scientific discoveries.He said that mathematics is backbone of science and technology for sustainable development.He also remembered great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, his immense contributions and asked students to imbibe his virtues to become proficient in their careers.He asked students to come out from their comfort zones and contribute in state and national development.Dr Vatsa appreciated the Science Club of the college for organising activities aimed at promoting mathematical awareness and appreciation.The Vice Chancellor also released a booklet authored by Drs Sharda Singh and Abhishek Guleria.
Dr Sharda Singh, Dean, College of Basic Sciences told that the students participated in declamation and rangoli competitions. A motivational movie was also screened to mark the day.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma from Govt. College Nadaun, delivered a keynote address.
Drs. Rishi Mahajan and Dr. Abhishek Guleria acknowledged the support of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research higher education project and H.P.Council for Science , Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) in organising the event. Deptartment of Mathematics, Sidharth Govt. “Utkrisht” College Nadaun, Dist. Hamirpur, H.P., India, delivered a talk on "Contribution of India in Mathematics" on the occasion of National Mathematics Day 2023 at college of Basic Sciences Cskhpkv.
Firstly Dr SK Sharma made the students aware about the importance of the National mathematics day.
Then through his talk he showed students that how in ancient India people are using math in daily life without knowing that it is a form of mathematics. He also talked about how rishi's used mathematics in form of sholka' to depict the distance between sun and earth by quoting example form Hanuman chalisa.
Through his talk he encouraged students' to be friendly with maths and always thinks what, why and how।

The students of B.Sc. Ist year Life Sciences and Physical Sciences Visited the University Library with Sh.Kapil Sharma as a part of Orientation Programme. Dr.Sunny Kumar, Assistant Librarian and Sh.Arvind Kumar conducted the visit. Dr.S.P.Dixit, Librarian also interacted with the students.

College of Basic Sciences celebrated the National Ayurveda Day (Dhanwantari Jayanti) – 2023
College of Basic Sciences celebrated the National Ayurveda Day (Dhanwantari Jayanti) – 2023 on 10/11/2023 which was observed on 08 th November, 2023. Focal theme for Ayurveda day-2023 was Ayurveda for One Health' with Tag line 'Ayurveda for everyone on every day'. On this occasion NSS students gave speeches and prepared posters.
Dr. Sharda Singh, Dean COBS emphasized on immense importance of Ayurveda in today's world as it reintroduces age-old wisdom that emphasizes the harmony between the body, mind, and spirit.
Dr. Usha Rana, Head Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences told everyone that in association with NAHEP-CAAST under Green graduation ceremony, an herbal garden has been established by the department to educate and create awareness about Ayurveda's natural remedies, preventive healthcare, and dietary practices for the students. On the occasion Dr. Ranbir Singh Rana, PI NAHEP-CAAST also told students about the green graduation ceremony and how they can adopt plants and take care of them and they will be rewarded for the same. All the faculty and students attended the programme.

Pledge on RASTRIYA EKTA DIWAS was taken to Commemorate the Birth Anversary of Sardar Valabh Bhai Patel at the College of Basic Sciences CSKHPKV Palampur by Dean, Heads, Faculty members, non-teaching staff and students.

Under the directions and guidance of Dr. D. K. Vats, Hon'ble Vice- Chancellor, CSKHPKV, Palampur, an awareness campaign meeting to rescue the students from the clutches of drug abuse was organized by College of Basic Science on 27-10-2023.
Dean, Dr. Sharda Singh addressed the gathering of students and teachers and apprised them about the devastating effects of drugs
Dr. Usha Rana, academic incharge and Sh. Kapil Sharma, Tutor and other faculty members also addressed the students and motivated them to participate in cultural and literary activities to stay focused and avoid drugs.
This interaction meeting was organized to increase the teachers- taught relationship and engaging the students for more positive activities.

Navaagman 2023:
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, CSK HP Agricultural University, Dr D.K Vats, was the Chief Guest on the occasion of "Navaagman 2023", a Freshers Welcome Function hosted by College of Basic Sciences to Welcome the new entrants (2023-2024 batch) in College of Basic Sciences Cobs Cskhpkv Palampur of this Prestigious University.
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, exhorted the students to work hard, learn manners and make the best use of best facilities available in the University.
Dr Sharda Singh, Dean of the College Cobs Cskhpkv Palampur , welcomed the new entrants and reminded a poem by Noble Laureate Ravinder Nath Tagore 'Where the Mind is without Fear' that this University also provides ragging free and fearless atmosphere for the overall development of the students. All faculty members, SCA and other students were present.
Students presented a mesmerizing program on the occasion that everyone was spell bound. Survesh Katoch and Pratiksha were decorated Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher; Priyanshu and Rayeesha Katoch were decorated Mr. Personality and Miss Personality.

राष्ट्रीय हिंदी दिवस 2023
आधारभूत विज्ञान महाविद्यालय Cobs Cskhpkv Palampur ने NAHEP-CAAST के सहयोग से राष्ट्रीय हिंदी दिवस 2023 मनाया। सम्माननीय अधिष्ठाता डॉ. शारदा सिंह समारोह की मुख्य अतिथि थीं। कार्यक्रम निदेशक (सीजीआरटी) डॉ. आर.एस. राणा और आधारभूत विज्ञान महाविद्यालय के विभाग प्रमुखों और संकाय सदस्यों, छात्रोँ ने भी इस कार्यक्रम में भाग लिया।
आदरणीय अधिष्ठाता, डॉ. शारदा सिंह ने अपने शब्दों से छात्रों को आशीर्वाद दिया, एक बहुत ही सुंदर कविता सुनाई और सभी को अधिक से अधिक हिंदी का उपयोग करने के लिए प्रेरित किया ताकि हिंदी साहित्य में निहित ज्ञान का उपयोग किया जा सके।
हिंदी के महत्व का जश्न मनाने के लिए भाषण और कविता पाठ प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया। प्रतियोगिताओं में क्रमशः 5, 5 विद्यार्थियों ने भाग लिया।
भाषण में आकाश रजक दूसरे और शिविका प्रथम रहीं; जबकि कविता पाठ में दिव्यांशु दूसरे और मेघना पहले स्थान पर रहीं।
आखिरी में श्री. अरुण कुमार ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापन प्रस्तुत किया।

Teacher's Day was celebrated at College of Basic Sciences, CSKHPKV, Palampur. Respected Dean Dr. Sharda Singh gave her blessings to children and motivated the students. She also gave mantra or vision to be successful in life. Students presented some beautiful cultural events.
