Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, CSK HPKV, Palampur on the occasion of International Day of Immunology on April, 29th, 2015 under the aegis of Indian Immunology Society (IIS).   • Organised XX Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology and National Symposium on Emerging Challenges and Opportunities in Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology for Improved Animal Health and Productivity held at Department of Veterinary Microbiology, DGCN COVAS, CSKHPKV, Palampur-2014 from 11-13th November, 2013.
  • Department bagged infrastructure developmental project worth 75 Lacs rupees from the state government under the RKVY scheme.
  • Dr. Rajesh Chahota and Dr Subhash Verma bagged ISVIB Mid-Career Scientist awards by ISVIB in the field of Veterinary Microbiology.
  • Dr. K. B. Nagal Professor joined back this university on August 31, 2008 after serving as faculty member, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Al-Beida Libya for two academic sessions . Dr. Nagal also attended an International Conference, The Third Libyan Congress of Cardiology 2007 held at Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Al-Beida, Libya. Subsequently, Dr Nagal again accepted another teaching assignment from Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Libya. He worked as Veterinary Microbiologist with effect from September 29, 2009 to May 31, 2011 at Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Al-Margeb University, Khoomas, Libya.
  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, HOD toured The University of Sydney, Faculty of Veterinary Science from 05th March – 10th March 2011 as a visiting scientist in relation to foot rot research. He also attended the meeting of Veterinary Public Health forum there.
  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, HOD attended the 16th symposium and 8th International conference on Lameness in Ruminants wef 28th February to 03rd march 2011 in Rotorua, New Zealand and presented a research paper entitled “Determination of prevalence and serological diversity of Dichelobacter nodosus in India”. Dr. Sharma also attended the post- conference workshop off-Pasteur-systems on 4th march, 2011.
  • Dr. Rajesh Chahota, Assoc. Prof. of this department visited Houston University, Texas, U.S.A. w.e.f. 29th March 2010 to 28th June 2010 to attend the training in bioinformatics (protein modeling, MD simulations and docking) under NAIP
  • Dr. Prasejit Dhar was awarded with Himotkarsh Gold Medal for standing top in DGCN COVAS during his PhD in 2004-2009.
  • A Customized Animal Disease Investigation & Research Vehicle was approved and funded to the department under RKVY. The animal disease investigation and research activities have accelerated since then.
  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, HOD, has been delegated with the responsibilities of Associate Director of Research and Nodal Officer-NAIP Cell in the Directorate of Research, CSK HPKV, Palampur, HP.
  • A Regional Colloquium on “Animal Diseases and Zoonoses in Northwestern Himalayas” was organized by the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, DGCN COVAS, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh on 19th of September 2009 under the aegis of Indian Society For Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB). Infectious disease experts and biotechnologists from different parts of India joined in for full one day brain-storming session and deliberated on current and future approaches to deal with infectious diseases of veterinary and zoonotic importance. The experts came out with specific recommendations, which have been communicated to relevant departments to take further necessary steps.
  • A Hands on Workshop on Dichelobacter nodosus under NAIP sub- project entitled “Serological diversity and molecular characterization of Dichelobacter nodosus and development of vaccine against virulent foot rot” was accomplished in the department w.e.f. 14.12.2009 to 20.12.2009.
  • Dr. Aneesh Thakur joined as Assistant Professor in the Department. Currently he is pursuing his PhD in Denmark.
  • Drs. Rajesh Chahota, Mandeep Sharma, S. Mittra and SD Thakur from departments of Vety. Microbioogy, Parasitology and VPH were awarded with “Sir F.M. Burnett Memorial Award-2008” in recognition of the best team work entitled “Molecular epidemiological investigation of a flea-borne Rickettsial outbreak in the Western Himalayan region based on glt-A and ompB genes” in the fields of Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology by the Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB).
  • Dr. Subhash Verma attended an “Open door workshop on working with pathogen genomes” between10-14 November, 2008, organized by Wellcome Trust at Oxford Mahidol University. Bangkok, Thailand.1. Dr. Subhash Verma, Assistant Professor joined back in the department after completing his PhD and Post Doctorate studies in the UK.


(From 2002 to 2007)

  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, HOD Veterinary Microbiology went to Singapore on an ambassadorial visit with Air-India w.e.f. October 15 to October 20, 2008 as their Broad Outlook Learner Teacher Award winner. He represented the State of Himachal Pradesh in a contingent of 30 selected teachers i.e. one each from a State.
  • Under Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) Programme of Veterinary Council of India (VCI), three days training programme in two batches was accomplished on the diagnosis of animal disease “Brucellosis” in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology. The training in two batches was done w.e.f. 13-15th March 2008 and 24-26th March 2008. The training programmes were attended by 17 and 14 veterinarians of the state, respectively. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CSK HPKV distributed the certificates to the trainee participants. Director of Research and Dean PG, CSK HPKV were also present in opening and closing functions. The Dean, DGCN COVAS was the coordinator of the trainings.
  • The department Organized 4th Annual Scientist’s Meet: The Department organized the 4th Annual Scientists’ meet of All India Network Programme on Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (H.S.) w.e.f. June 4th-5th 2007. Dr. D.S. Rathore Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CSK HPKV, Palampur was the Chief Guest and Dr. Lal Krishna, Assistant Director General (Animal Health), ICAR presided over the inaugural function. In this meet Principle and Co-principle investigators from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Gujarat, Punjab, IVRI, Izatnagar (UP) as well Palampur center along with PG students had intense deliberations on various aspects of prevention and controlling the Pasteurella infections among animals and poultry. The delegates also had discussion about the modern techniques of vaccine development and field trials of the same.
  • Dr. Rajesh Chahota has joined back in the department after completion of Ph.D. in the Gifu University, Japan.
  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, Head attended international workshop on VPH organized by MASHAV-Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and CINADCO, Govt. of Israel w.e.f. 22nd November- 14th December 2005. Twenty veterinary professionals from different countries mainly developing countries were chosen by Israel for this workshop. The participants were acquainted with the responsibility of Agriculture and animal husbandry in Israel, where this sector is playing massive role in the National economy.
  • The Department was identified as Department for support under the FIST programme of DST. The proposal submitted by the Department was identified for support in Level-I category by the DST based on the recommendations of the FIST Advisory Board (FISTAB). The total quantum of budget will be for Rs. 10.0 Lakh. Out of which, Rs. Five (5) Lakh will be for purchase of equipments and another Rs. Five (5) Lakh will be utilized for Networking and Computational facilities. This is the first Department in the Veterinary College which has bagged such a support under this prestigious program.
  • Dr. Mandeep Sharma, HOD visited Pakistan to attend 14th Asian CVA conference wef 21-23 September 2005 in Lahore, Pakistan. The group of scientists led by the honorable Vice- Chancellor also visited agricultural university Faisalabad on a special invitation.
  • The Department organized National Symposium on “Quality Assessment of Immunodiagnostics and Immunoprophylactics for Livestock Diseases in Post- W.T.O. scenario including Impact on Mountainous Regions” and 22nd annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Microbiologists, Immunologists and Specialists in Infectious Diseases w.e.f. October 18th - 19th, 2004. The conference was attended by more than 75 National Scientists and many PG students. It assumed an International meaning by participation of three (3) Pakistani delegates.
