Celebration of International Day of Immunology, April 29th 2015: A half day program was organized by Department of Veterinary Microbiology of Dr. G.C. Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, CSK HPKV, Palampur on the occasion of International Day of Immunology on April, 29th, 2015 under the aegis of Indian Immunology Society (IIS). This was the first time that International Day of Immunology was celebrated in the university. Undergraduate and postgraduate students and faculty of the college participated in the program. The day started with an Immunology quiz followed by a debate for the students on the topic: Have the pathogens won!! The session was very stimulating for the students. Professor Mandeep Sharma, Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology welcomed the gathering and highlighted the immunological research being conducted in the department. Dr. Aneesh Thakur introduced about the International Day of Immunology and its global celebration. Professor P.N. Dwivedi, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Punjab apprised the audience about function of immune system and its role in disease prevention. Dean of the college Dr. Sanjeet Katoch elaborated on vaccination and disease prevention. Vice Chancellor Dr. K.K. Katoch presided over the function and distributed the prizes to the winners of quiz and debate competitions. He addressed the gathering about the contribution of Immunology and Immunologists to the society and shared his own childhood experiences of vaccination. He also emphasized on the need of more such programs in future and to include a broader audience especially people without any scientific background in order to make the people aware of their immune system for a better health and well-being in general.
