 Introductory & Welcome Message

I take this opportunity to introduce you to Ch. Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur (Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidayala, Palampur; http://hillagric.ac.in which was established on 1st November, 1978 & is now an ISO 9001:2008 certified university.  It is one of the premier agriculture universities of India involved in imparting highly specialized professional training & education in various fields of agriculture, veterinary & animal sciences including fisheries, life science, home science, food technology; & other allied areas with special emphasis on hill & mountain agriculture. The university has 330 scientists & 1650 support staff. It has four colleges viz. College of Agriculture which has 13 departments, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (18 departments), College of Home Science (5 departments) and the College of Basic Sciences (4 departments). The university offers five bachelor degrees; & masters & doctoral degrees in 31 & 17 disciplines, respectively. The university has recently started two new programmes i.e. MBA (Agri-business) & B. Tech (Food Science & Technology). More information on various undergraduate & postgraduate degree programmes along with faculty research areas can be seen by visiting university website & or obtained from Deans of respective colleges or Dean, Postgraduate Studies. The admission for under-graduate and post-graduate programmes (M.V.Sc/M.Sc) normally starts during the first week of July every year whereas for Ph.D. this commences from the first week of January every year.

Apart from university’s magnificent setting, serene surroundings & friendly reputation, it provides rich cultural, social and educational experience to students from many countries. The university provides excellent facilities for academics and research as well as dedicated separate fully furnished lodging and boarding for international students including self catering studio flats, family flats with 24 hour wi-fi internet facility and a common lounge with satellite TV & other recreational facilities. At present, the university has students from various countries that are pursuing their U.G. and P.G. studies. Many of these students are funded by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indo-African & Indo-Afganistan Scholarship programmes and their respective governments. The students who are not supported under any scholarships meet their fees & other expenses from their personal resources. The alumni of this university are holding important positions & serving throughout the world. They hold his university in high esteem & rank it very high in teaching, research as well as for social life.
