                Occurrence,  deficiency,  physiological  effects  and  synthesis  of  B  complex,  E  and  K.
               Chemotherapy  Antibiotics:  General  structure  determination/elucidation  of  penicillin  and
               terramycin. Synthesis of penicillin G and V (via APA). Introduction to the structure and function
               of  antibiotics  i.e.  ampicillin,  amoxycillin,  chloramphenicol,  cephalosporin,  tetracycline  and
               streptomycin. Mode of action of antibacterial agents. Sulpha drugs Prostaglandins Biosynthesis,
               Synthesis of PGE2 and PGF2α.


               PRACTICAL (30 Hours)

                 1.  Qualitative  Analysis:  Separation,  purification,  and  identification  of  binary  mixture  of
                    organic compounds by chemical tests.
                 2.  Organic Synthesis:
               Acetylation:  -  Acetylation  of  cholesterol  and  separation  of  cholesteryl  acetate  by  column
               chromatography.
               Oxidation: Adipic acid by chromic acid oxidation of cyclohexanol.
               Grignard reaction: Synthesis of triphenyl methanol from benzoic acid.
               Aldol condensation: Dibenzal acetone from benzaldehyde.
