MANDATE AND OPERATIONAL MODE i) Students’ Counselling: Counselling is based on the sound assumption that every individual has to play a role in the world for his own as well as the benefits of the society. Many individuals need help to find their roles and some individuals need help to fulfill their roles in an efficient and satisfactory manner. When the students enter the College, they face adjustment problems and difficulty in understanding university education system and deciding their goals/roles in life. Effective counseling is essential not only for overcoming students’ problems and difficulties but also for providing them quality placements. The objectives in Students’ Counselling are:
The Advisory/ Counseling system is running successfully in each College under the supervision of the concerned Dean. A Class In-Charge/Tutor is allotted to each class who completes the advisory work with the assistance of Advisors. A batch of 5 to 10 UG students is usually given to an Advisor for guidance. In case of PG students, there is Major Advisor for each student. Whenever any Class In-Charge/Tutor detect major personality problem in any student, he reports the matter to the Coordinator through the respective Co-Coordinator for taking the remedial measure. The Coordinator organizes training on Motivation/ Counselling Techniques to teachers/advisors from time to time in consultation with SWO and the concerned Dean. At the start of the Academic Session, the Dean of the College holds Fresh-Senior student interactions as well as Orientation classes to New Entrants to make them aware of University facilities, education system, rules and regulations, etc. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor also addresses new entrants along with senior students and faculty members every year in the beginning of the 1st semester for his words of wisdom to all.
ii) Students’ Placement The Globalization and restructuring of Indian Economy in recent times has posed both challenges and opportunities in agriculture. As a result of increased emphasis on privatization under the regime of free market economy, the employment avenues for agricultural graduates have increased manifold. The many pass-out students of the university are usually unaware of this job market and opportunities available to them. Considering these facts, the objectives relating to the Students Placement are:
To achieve these objectives, the Co-Coordinator of each college furnishes the following information to the Coordinator within one month from the commencement of 1st semester of every academic year:
i) The Bio-data of each Final year student indicating his Name, Class, Admission No. Father’s Name, Permanent Address, Correspondence address, Contact No (Mobile), Education qualification (Certificate/Degree, Board/University, Marks, Main subjects/Specialization), Awards/ Honours/ Scholarships, his immediate Goal( to pursue education in India/abroad or to seek job), Hobbies and any other important information along with the passport size photograph of the student. The bio- data of final year UG and PG students is procured from the office of the Class Tutor/In-Charge and Heads of Department, respectively. ii) A list of prospective employers/Job avenues in Firms/Industries for pass-out graduates along with the complete address of the contact persons. Such information is taken by the Co-Coordinator from the Heads of Department of respective colleges. The Co-coordinator is always in touch with these firms/prospective employers and sends the general profile of UG and PG students of each college to them. iii) A list of special soft skills required by any prospective employer which needs to be developed in our Graduates for easiness in their recruitment.
Besides, the Co-Coordinator of each College organizes student-entrepreneur/prospective employer interactions (at least two in a year) and Coaching classes/Trainings (at least one in a year) to prepare the students for competitive examinations and establishing vocational programmes in consultation with the concerned Dean. The Co-Coordinators submit the Monthly Report of Students’ Counselling and Placement activities in their respective college to the Coordinator for onward transmission to the higher authority.
The Coordinator is also responsible for organizing specialized lectures/trainings at the university level and holding Campus Recruitment Tests/Interviews to the students. He also assists the Co-Coordinators in conducting soft skill development and other programmes as and when desired by the competent authority. He explores the possibility of different programmes for self employment and also part- time job assignments e.g. Women Scientist Scholarship Scheme under DST, etc. |
