to Under Graduate and PG classes of College of Veterinary and Animal
Sciences in the subject of Animal Genetics and Breeding.

Research:

Development of rural poultry strain suitable for agro-climatic condition of
Himachal Pradesh using local germplasm of state and improved strain.

On-farm testing of various established poultry strain viz. Vanaraja, Dahlem
Red, Rhode Island Red and various crosses produced at CSKHPKV Poultry farm.

Molecular genetic and phenotypic characterization of native hill cattle of
Himachal Pradesh.

Genetic improvement of gaddi goat of Himachal Pradesh in various migration
tracts.

Genetic characterization of native chicken of Himachal Pradesh.

Responsible for Post graduate research in Animal Breeding and genetics

To
help state government in formulation of state livestock breeding policy

Formulation of strategies for genetic improvement and conservation of local
livestock including poultry.
Extension:

personnel for imparting short term trainings to the farmers organized by the
Directorate of Extension or other agencies.

On-farm demonstration for poultry and hatchery management.

Distribution of chicks and other inputs for backyard poultry production for
field evaluation of crosses developed at CSKHPKV Poultry farm.
Besides above activities the department is maintaining Poultry unit for
teaching and extension purposes.
