Department of Extension Education and Communication Management The department of Extension Education and Communication Management is one of the five departments of College of Community Science. This department came into being in the year 1992 with the creation of College of Home Science with a broad objective of catering to the educational needs of students. Earlier this department was known as the department of Home Science Extension Education and was renamed as Extension Education and Communication Management in the year 2017 in consonance with ICAR nomenclature. This Department strives to address the needs of the family and community for mobilization and participation of masses, gender equity, women’s empowerment through its interdisciplinary trainings and multi-faceted programmes. Curriculum of the department provides strong theoretical foundation and experiential learning to meet the existing market demands for trained professionals in participatory development processes and Communication. During four years B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Science, the students are exposed to a variety of courses like Extension Education and Rural Development, Women in Agriculture, Communication and personality development, Instructional Technologies, Diffusion and Adoption of Homestead Technologies, Extension Training Management, Programme Development for Rural Families and Community Organisation. A student READY Programme to undergraduate Community Science students which includes Instructional Video Production Unit, Public Relation and Social Marketing, Web Designing and Multimedia Production is also imparted to the students. There is an emphasis on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as well as on traditional, local and folk media as tools of communication. The department is primarily focusing on research activities like Data Base generation, Women Empowerment, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Traditional Knowledge etc. OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
