The thrust areas of the Department are:
 

  •  Biochemical characterization of cereals, legumes, oilseeds, medicinal plants and other potential crops.

  •  Characterization, evaluation, genetic enhancement and generation of genomic resources for accelerated  utilization and improvement of potential crops.

  •  Evaluation of nutritional and antinutritional compounds in underutilized crops.

  •  Functional characterization of novel genes from potential crops.

  •  Study on biochemical and molecular mechanisms for inducer mediated physiological responses in crops.

  •  Quality evaluation of grasses, legumes and fodder trees.
