HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
Programme is jointly run with 2 constituent colleges i.e. Agriculture and
Community Science.
ACTIVITIES:
Undergraduate courses in vegetable and
floriculture (Agriculture and Community Science).
Post graduation (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) in
Vegetable Science.
HILL FARMERS NEED BASED RESEARCH (PA 1):
This programme is run in cooperation with five Regional Research and
Extension Centres of the University.
ACTIVITIES:
Development of high yielding, disease
resistant and horticulturally desirable varieties/hybrids of different
vegetables.
Standardization of agro techniques.
Identification of potential vegetables
for different agro climatic situations.
Popularization of rare vegetables and
nutrigardens gardens for ensuring health & nutritional security.
STRATEGIC RESEARCH (PA 2):
This programme undertakes strategic Research in the frontier areas of vegetable
breeding, production and seed production.
ACTIVITIES:
Development of resistant varieties against diseases and insect pests.
Standardization of technology and package of practice for growing vegetables
under abiotic stress conditions.
Development of production technology for rainfed areas.
Production technology of vegetables under protected environments and
hydroponics.
Identification of promising potential lines for hybrid seed production.
Organic farming for exploring niche/export market.
Identification of high value of season vegetables and their production
technologies for nutritional, health and financial security.
Minimizing post harvest losses to increase the farmer’s income.
Exploration and popularization of nutritionally rich rare and underexploited
vegetables.
TRAINING/EXTENSION SERVICES (PA 3):
This programme imparts training to Farmers, Agricultural Officers, Extension
Officers and other entrepreneurs in cooperation with Directorate of Extension
Education and 8 KVKS.
ACTIVITIES:
Training to Farmers, Agricultural Officers/Extension Officers of the State
Department and entrepreneurs to grow quality vegetables.
Dissemination of improved vegetable production technology.
Assessment, refinement and demonstrations of technologies.
Consultancy services, diagnostic field visits, trainings and live phone in
programmes of AIR/TV
CONSERVATION OF BIO-DIVERSITY (PA 4):
Conservation of locally available genetic material of vegetables and allied
species.

SEED PRODUCTION (PA 5)
The programme emphasizes on the quality seed production (nucleus, breeder
foundation and truthfully labelled) in collaboration with seed production unit
and five Regional Research and Extension Centres.
ACTIVITIES:
Production of breeder seed as per requirement.
Provision of improved package to increase the availability of quality of
vegetable seeds.
