The Department came into existence as one of the
constituents of the erstwhile Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at
the time of inception of College in July, 1986. The Department gained the
status of an independent department with effect from July 1, 1991.

The department is working to meet following
objectives:
Teaching:
- Teaching of B.V.Sc. & A.H. students as per
the VCI standards and regulations
Research:
- Research on the specific problems of the HP
state
- Research on externally funded and
departmental ongoing projects
- Research related to postgraduate thesis work
- Investigations and analysis of the disease
outbreaks in livestock of HP
Extension:
- Participation in Kisan mela, Vet fair,
- Imparting trainings to Field officers,
farmers; attending clinical camps, disease outbreaks, etc
