NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC) / राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर HISTORY OF NCC AT HIMACHAL PRADESH KRISHI VISHVAVIDYALAYA PALAMPUR: NCC has a long and rich history at this University. History of NCC could be traced back to the year 1966 when this campus started as a part of Punjab Agricultural University-Ludhiana. NCC continued as a major student activity when this campus became part of Himachal Pradesh University Agricultural Complex in the year 1971. NCC has continued and further evolved at this campus after this campus was declared as full fledged Agricultural University on November, 01, 1978. This University has always accorded priority to NCC activities and keeping in view the National interests and optimum utilisation of youth energy; And also in order to produce trained and disciplined citizens and motivated youth CSK HPKV Palampur, since its inception, has adopted NCC activity as a mandatory Non Credit Course (0+2) across all the Undergraduate degree programs of the constituent colleges. Till the academic year 2015-16, NCC as a course was offered only to the Male students. However, NCC was first offered to the Female students of this University from the academic year 2016-17. University NCC unit has contributed a lot in serving the motherland as Cadets from this University have joined Indian Armed Forces in large numbers in Officer and Other Ranks. Considering the quantum and quality of NCC activities and support provided by the University Administration, The NCC organisation have, in past, granted the prestigious Honoraray Rank of Colonel Commandant NCC to various Vice Chancellors. At the start NCC unit at Palampur campus was attached to 11 Punjab Bn NCC Dharamshala, which was re-designated as 3 HP Bn NCC Dharamshala on 1-11-1966. 3 HP Bn NCC Dharamshala was re-raised as 5 HP(I) COY NCC Dharamshala on May, 02, 1977 and NCC Unit of HPKV is attached to this Company since then. Presently, Col. D.K.S. Chauhan is Commanding Officer of this Company.
ABOUT NCC: Motto of NCC is "Unity and Discipline". All the students registered in this course are trained for basic concepts of discipline, drill & NCC and participation in University level Republic Day and Independence Day Parades. The classes are conducted for 4 hours in a week. The Selected Cadets out of all the registered students are further trained as per NCC curriculum and are motivated to achieve the target of passing "C" certificate examination in good grade. NCC unit at CSKHPKV Palampur is an Army Wing (Infantry) Unit and deals with Senior Division (Boys) and Senior Wing (Girls) Cadets. This Unit is attached to 5 HP (Independent) Company NCC-Dharamshala (under the Group Headquarters-Shimla) which is lead by The Officer Commanding of the Rank of Colonel from Indian Army. At University level, the NCC activities are under the direct control of The Associate NCC Officer (ANO), who is from the regular faculty of this University. An ANO is the commissioned officer in NCC and presently Lt (Dr.) Ankur Sharma is working as ANO. Further, overall supervision is done by The Students' Welfare Officer (SWO) {one of the statutory officers of this University}, who also provide facilities for carrying out various activities of NCC and further reports to The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the University. Presently, Dr. V.K. Gupta is SWO of this University. University administration has always provided good support to the NCC organisation by allowing its resources (Staff, Vehicles etc.) to be used in various activities. From the day of joining, present Vice Chancellor Dr. H.K Chaudhary is taking keen interest in the NCC activities and has directed the administration to provide full support for carrying out related activities.
