This department is one of the major departments of College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences and is involved in wide variety of activities and varied dimensions in the science of Veterinary Medicine through out the State of Himachal Pradesh and beyond. The Faculty of this department is actively and extensively involved in various activities and is working for the betterment of Veterinary Medicine on one hand and for the poor of the poorest farmer / livestock owner and pet lovers on the other hand.
The work sphere of the department includes :
--UG Teaching as per VCI recommendations. This department is involved in teaching Veterinary Clinical Medicine as well as Veterinary Preventive Medicine to the UG students studying in B.V.Sc. & AH course. The department also conducts the educational tour on Wild life for the benefit of final year students.
--PG Teaching The department offers M.V.Sc. and Ph.D in the discipline of Veterinary Medicine and is actively involved in teaching and research component of these degrees.
--Evaluation of UG students in other Universities of India. Setting of question papers.
--Evaluation of PG students along with thesis in various Universities of India.
--Acting as experts for various recruitments in different Universities.
--Setting of question papers for various competitive examinations throughout the Country.
--Disease Diagnosis and Quality Treatment for farm animals, companion animals and wildlife. Farmers & Pet owners from throughout the state of Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states visit the department.
--Specialized Referral services.
--Clinical Camps throughout the state and technical advice to the farmers.
--Attending disease outbreak throughout the state (in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry).
--Advising in / member of State level purchase committees (Department of Animal Husbandry / Wool Fed.)
--Inspection of Veterinary Pharmacist Training Centres in Himachal Pradesh.
--Conduct of examinations for students of Veterinary Pharmacist Diploma course.
--Advice and treatment for wildlife.
--Conduct of educational tours for UG Students as per course curriculum.
--Helping in propagation of livestock with declining population.
--Deworming and Dipping campaigns.
--Specialised services for the high altitude tribal and Himalayan hard areas. Includes special tribal camps for disease diagnosis and treatment. Making tribal farmers aware about modern animal husbandry practices. Distribution of medicines and supplements for better health management of animals in tribal areas.
----Taking up various researchable issues in the state of Himachal Pradesh through various externally funded (competitive grant) research projects.
--Providing expert help to research projects of other departments as a collaborating department.
--Providing timely technical help and treatment on demand to other departments and units of CSKHPKV.
--Providing timely technical help and treatment on demand to specialised units of State Department of Animal Husbandry like Sperm Station, Farms etc.
--Providing specialised disease diagnosis and treatment facilities to precious animals of various paramillitary forces like Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and H.P. Police.
--Need based expert advice to various government departments.
--Adopting new and efficacious therapeutic regimens / protocols as per research findings for the welfare of animals.
--Clinical Trials of various drug preparation.
--Participating on need based Radio and TV talks for the benefit of farmers of the state.
--Association in mobile diagnostic laboratory of this University.
--Organising training for Senior Veterinary Officers / Veterinary Officers and Vet. Pharmacists on various technical issues for knowledge upgradation.
--Providing training for knowledge upgradation to personnel from paramilitary forces (e.g. SSB).
--Providing training to farmers and livestock owners of the state.
--Working for the benefit of animal owners through extension projects as a collaborating department.
--Involvement in disaster management trainings (animals component) being provided to Veterinary graduates and personnel from National Disaster Management Force.
--Involvement in Kissan Call Centre.
--Acting as resource department for various seminars and Melas throughout the state.
