Technologies developed

The department has developed technologies in the field of

  • Nutritional quality evaluation, Utilisation and Value-addition of

  • Underutilised food crops viz. Amaranthus, Buckwheat, Rice bean, Chayote, Lungru, Kachnar, Lasoora,Daru, Akha, Kashmal, Kafal and wild Jamun etc.

  • Aloe Vera

  • Seabuckthorn

  • Utilisation of fruit waste viz. apple pomace, citrus peel

  • Medicinal plants

  • Assessment of nutritional status of vulnerable segment of the society i.e. pre-school children, pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls

  • Hypocholesterolemic effect of food crops viz. chayote and linseed

  • Use of indigenous plant products as  protectants against insect infestation in stored grains 

  • Drying and dehydration of local and commercial fruits and vegetables of H.P.

  • Preparation and nutritional quality evaluation of supplementary and  weaning foods

Establishment of Food Processing Pilot Plant

To strengthen the Research and Development activities in the Discipline of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Home Science has established a Food Processing Pilot Plant with following Objectives:

  •  To give impetus to the food preservation and processing

  •  To provide R and D component to the food preservation and processing areas

  •  To create a forum for the students, researchers, industry personnel, policy makers and local citizens for better interaction

  •  To help maintain nutritional, palatable and safest balance of raw materials and processed products

  •  To meet the demand of the University regarding various processed food products.
