The Department of Seed Science & Technology was established on 30.6.2009 by upgrading Seed Production Unit which came into existence in 1980. The department is running M.Sc. in Seed Science and Technology. Besides teaching, the scientists are actively involved in seed technology research and production of nucleus, breeder, foundation and truthfully labeled seed to cater the demand of state department of agriculture and to some extent the farmers of the state.
Apart from teaching and research, the department also undertakes extension activities in collaboration with Directorate of Extension Education and State Agriculture Department. The trainings on seed production technology i.e. production, certification and processing are also organized for the benefit of extension personnels of the Agricultural Department and the farmers of the State. The mandate of the department is:

Teaching at under graduate and post graduate level so as to trained human resource available in the field of Seed Science and Technology.

To undertake location specific research on fundamental and applied aspect of seed technology.

To produce nucleus, breeder, foundation and certified /truthfully labeled seed of released varieties of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fodders and vegetables crops.

To impart training and extension services for farmers of state and extension functionaries of Agriculture Department.

To test the quality of seed produced by seed growers of the State and Agriculture Department.
