Faculty of the department plays an important role in dissemination of technologies on ‘Organic and natural farming’ through delivering lectures and Radio/TV talks, laying out of demonstrations, organization of different training programmes, field days etc..

Lectures delivered in different programmes: Faculty of the department deliver lectures to the beneficiaries during on and off campus training programmes as and when organized.

Demonstrations: 126 demonstrations on paddy, maize, millets, mash, ricebean, adzukibean, soybean, wheat, gram, lentil, linseed, cowpea cucumber, green chili, okra, peas and soybean with natural farming and organic farming practices along with control were conducted at ZBNF farm.

Trainings: Department conducts training programs to farmer groups approaching through different State Govt. organizations, ATMAs NGOs and farmers promoted by Village Panchayats. Apart from this, department trains the Master Trainers from State Deptt. of Agriculture and other related departments also imparts training to students.

@ Internal Control System/ Participating Guarantee System for organic certification

@ Graduate, post graduate and doctoral students from college of agriculture and other colleges of the university are provided research guidance by the scientists of the department.

In Distt. Lahaul &Spiti, Salix clonal plants, interlinked chain wire and quality planting material of Apple spur variety were provided to the beneficiaries for plantation in the demonstrations of agroforestry systems developed on about 0.94 ha. In addition, multicut leucerne fodder and quality seed of pea was also distributed to the beneficiaries for growing under horti-pastoral and agrisilviculture systems.

Other activities

@ Under the Niche Area of Excellence programme (2006-17) 7509 stakeholders (students, farmers, agriculture officers, faculty, NGOs etc.) were trained on various aspects of organic agriculture through one hundred & twenty four (124) on and off campus trainings. In addition, fifty six (56) field demonstrations on organic management of crops were conducted on the farmers field in district Kangra, Hamirpur and Bilaspur of H.P.

@ Two villages viz. Bhadrog in Bilaspur district and Balduhak in Hamirpur district have been adopted for taking the activities in a big way for conversion of farmers from inorganic to organic agriculture. As a result, the farmers of the adjoining villages have also started showing interest in organic farming.

@ Practical training course on organic farming is being offered by the department to the B.Sc Agriculture students under the ELP programme

@ Model Training Course on Organic farming to the 20 Scientists & Agriculture Officers from 8 states w.e.f. 12-19 October 2015 and 25 October to 1 November, 2017

@ Audio CD on “Organic Farming” in Hindic overing all the aspects on organic agriculture for he stakeholders was prepared and releases in March 2016 was organized

@ E-literature CD -- Model Training Course on “Eco-friendly-Organic Agriculture” sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, GOI in October 2015 was prepared
