Faculty
of the department plays an important role in dissemination of technologies on
‘Organic and natural farming’ through delivering lectures and Radio/TV talks,
laying out of demonstrations, organization of different training programmes,
field days etc..
Lectures
delivered in different programmes:
Faculty
of the department deliver lectures to the beneficiaries during on and off campus
training programmes as and when organized.
Demonstrations:
126 demonstrations on paddy,
maize, millets, mash, ricebean, adzukibean, soybean, wheat, gram, lentil,
linseed, cowpea cucumber, green chili, okra, peas and soybean with natural
farming and organic farming practices along with control were conducted at ZBNF
farm.
Trainings:
Department conducts training programs to farmer groups approaching through
different State Govt. organizations, ATMAs NGOs and farmers promoted by Village
Panchayats. Apart from this, department trains the Master Trainers from State
Deptt. of Agriculture and other related departments also imparts training to
students.

In Distt. Lahaul &Spiti, Salix
clonal plants, interlinked chain wire and quality planting material of
Apple spur variety were provided to the beneficiaries for plantation in
the demonstrations of agroforestry systems developed on about 0.94 ha.
In addition, multicut leucerne fodder and quality seed of pea was also
distributed to the beneficiaries for growing under horti-pastoral and
agrisilviculture systems. |

Under the Niche Area of Excellence programme (2006-17) 7509 stakeholders
(students, farmers, agriculture officers, faculty, NGOs etc.) were trained on
various aspects of organic agriculture through one hundred & twenty four (124)
on and off campus trainings. In addition, fifty six (56) field demonstrations on
organic management of crops were conducted on the farmers field in district
Kangra, Hamirpur and Bilaspur of H.P.

Two villages viz. Bhadrog in Bilaspur district and Balduhak in Hamirpur
district have been adopted for taking the activities in a big way for conversion
of farmers from inorganic to organic agriculture. As a result, the farmers of
the adjoining villages have also started showing interest in organic farming.
