Ψ  Extension Activities

v  Demonstration of crop improvement technologies (varieties) of soybean, linseed and fodder crops at the farmers’ fields

v  Demonstration of crop improvement technologies (varieties) on various occasions viz., Kisan Melas and  Agri. festivals

v  Distribution of improved reproductive materials (seeds and root slips) to the farmers developed by the University

v  Imparting training on cutting edge research to the students of different organizations of the country.

 

Ψ  Training modules

INTRODUCTION

An internationally recognized Molecular Cytogenetics & Tissue Culture Lab established in the aforesaid Department has been undertaking cutting edge research activities in various innovative spheres of plant biotechnology with the support of an excellent team of scientists, research scholars and postgraduate students. Besides execution of various national and international research projects, this Lab has also been providing an unique opportunity to the outstanding graduate and post graduate students in biotechnology stream studying in various Indian Institutes/Colleges and Universities for acquiring technical know-how in innovative and ultramodern spheres of Biotechnology.

TRAINING MODULE: A

DURATION: ONE MONTH

Technical know-how in respect of application of various biotechnological tools for plant/crop improvement

v  Introduction to the Molecular Cytogenetics & Tissue Culture lab and its innovative activities in various spheres of biotechnology

v  Practical demonstration of

• Wide hybridization through embryo rescue approach in various crops especially Triticum, Trifolium and Brassica species for the introgression of targeted alien genes

• Anther culture and chromosome elimination-mediated approaches of doubled haploidy breeding in bread wheat and brassicas

• Protocol for DNA extraction in crop plants

v  Handling important instruments in the Lab related to various Molecular Genetics & Cytogenetics activities

• Acquaintance with various crop varietal development programmes of the Department

• Active interaction with the faculties and students of Plant Breeding & Genetics through departmental seminars and weekly Lab meetings

• Delivering of a lecture on a current topic in biotechnology by the trainee                

TRAINING MODULE: B

DURATION: TWO MONTHS

Acquiring technical Know-how in respect of application of various biotechnological tools in the genetic upgradation of various crop/plant species

v  Introduction to the Molecular Cytogenetics & Tissue Culture Lab and its innovative activities in various spheres of biotechnology

v  Practical demonstration of

• Wide hybridization through embryo rescue approach in various crops especially Triticum, Trifolium and Brassica species for the introgression of targeted alien genes

• Anther culture and chromosome elimination-mediated approaches of doubled haploidy breeding in bread wheat and brassicas

• Protocol for DNA extraction in crop plants

v  Handling important instruments in the Lab related to various Molecular Genetics & Cytogenetics activities

• Practical experience in the MCT Lab for the development of doubled haploids in bread wheat following Chromosome elimination-mediated approach                      

• Theoretical knowledge of Molecular Cytogenetics approaches and their applications

• Acquaintance with various crop varietal development programmes of the Department

• Active interaction with the faculties and students of Plant Breeding & Genetics through departmental seminars and weekly Lab meetings

• Delivering of a lecture on a current topic in biotechnology by the trainee

 

TRAINING MODULE: C

DURATION: THREE MONTHS

Acquiring practical experience in handling various novel biotechnological tools for the genetic amelioration of various crop/plant species

v  Introduction to the Molecular Cytogenetics & Tissue Culture Lab and its innovative activities in various spheres of biotechnology

v  Practical demonstration of

• Wide hybridization through embryo rescue approach in various crops especially Triticum, Trifolium and Brassica species for the introgression of targeted alien genes

• Practical experience of handling the anther culture and chromosome elimination-mediated approaches of doubled haploidy breeding in bread wheat and Brassica crops

• Protocol for DNA extraction in crop plants

v  Handling important instruments in the Lab related to biotech work

v  Practical experience in the MCT Lab for the development of doubled haploids in bread wheat following Chromosome elimination-mediated approach and their cytological investigations

v  Practical demonstration (in the ongoing endeavour) in respect of the application of

• Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH)

v  Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) tools of Molecular Cytogenetic approach for physical mapping of alien introgression in crop/plant species

• Acquaintance with the crop varietal development programmes of the Department

• Active interaction with the faculties and students of Plant Breeding & Genetics through departmental seminars and weekly Lab meetings

• Delivering of a lecture on a current topic in biotechnology by the trainee

NOTE:

1. The duration of training module shall be 1-3 months and the candidate has to specify clearly the training module duration in which he/she will be joining.

2. Imparting of the aforesaid training is not a regular feature.

3. Candidates will be selected on merit basis and the maximum number of trainees to be accommodated at a time will in no case exceed more than twenty.

4. Training will be imparted during March to May every year subject to the availability of space in the Lab and time with the In-charge of this Lab.

5. For undertaking training, the students should apply in the prescribed format (Annexure I) through their respective Principal/Dean/Registrar to the Registrar, CSKHPKV, Palampur-176062 H.P. well in time who will forward the same to the Head, Department of Crop Improvement, CSK HPKV, Palampur, for further action. All subsequent correspondence to be made with the Head of the Department.

6. The trainee shall be required to pay the entire training fee at the start of the training programme at the following rates.

- CHARGES FOR ONE MONTH RS. 10,000/-

- CHARGES FOR TWO MONTHS RS. 20,000/-

- CHARGES FOR THREE MONTHS RS. 30,000/-

7. The training fee for any faculty member of outside institute/university shall be charged at the rate of Rs. 15000/- per month.
