University Management Committee Decisions

            

Proceedings of 3rd meeting (2008) of the University Management Committee held on 1st March, 2008 at 11.00 AM in the Committee Room of the Administrative Block.

 

The following were present in the meeting which was chaired by the Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor:

The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor welcomed all the members present in the meeting and introduced the Registrar who had recently joined the University.  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed the Registrar that the University Management Committee is not a statutory body.  This has been set up with the aim of “Establishing a Collective Decision Making and Governance System” and to serve as platform for sharing information among the different organs of the University with regard to programmes, developmental activities and  other management issues.

 

CDA:  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed that the third instalment of CDA has been allotted to different units and stated that this has to be utilized before 31st  March, 2008.  He told that those who are not in a position to utilize the allotted funds within the stipulated period, may intimate him well in time so that the funds could be allotted to the needy units.

 

Allotment of space for Dean, PG office:   The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed that in consultation with the DEE and the Dean, PG, it has been decided to allot University Press Building to the Dean, PG office and the Printing Press will  be shifted to the Directorate of Extension Education.  All the members appreciated the decision of the Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor as there was a need of independent space for Dean, PG office.  With regard to immediate shifting, the DEE and the Dean, PG will take a decision.  The funds for the renovation of Press Building have been allotted. 

 

Land Scape:  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor briefed the members about the decisions taken with regard to land scape of the University land  in the Land Scape Advisory Committee meeting held on 29th February, 2008. The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed that to prepare Water Shed Projects in the University, the responsibility has been assigned to the Dean, Postgraduate Studies and Road Net Work project to the Estate Officer.  So far as auction of grass is concerned, the responsibility of contacting and holding a meeting with the nearby villagers who need University grass has been assigned to the Estate Officer and the Sr.Seed Production Scientist.  To make the Campus beautiful, land scape work has been started and bush clearing will be started soon.

 

All India Coordinated Maize Workshop:  The Director of Research informed that All India Coordinated Maize Workshop is being held w.e.f. 4th - 6th April, 2008 in the University in which approximately 250 – 300 participants are likely to participate.  He informed that recently he has gone to Delhi and met the Director General, ICAR who has shown his inability to participate in the Workshop due to his being out of country during that period.  However, Dr.P.L.Gautam, DDG (Crop Science) will be coming to Palampur  for attending the Workshop.  The Director of Research further informed that various Committees have been constituted to make the Workshop successful.  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor requested all the Statutory Officers to be present at the Campus at the time of Workshop.  He also informed that Ganesh Bhawan will be ready for providing accommodation to the participating scientists.   Cultural programme will also be organized for which the responsibility has been given to the Students` Welfare Officer.

 

Dean, PG`s visit to Nepal:  Dr.P.K. Sharma, Dean, Postgraduate Studies informed that he visited Nepal from 25–27.2.2008 to attend the 2nd Annual meeting of the Himalayan University Consortium in Kathmandu as a representative of the Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor and briefed the members about the meeting.  He informed that there are 15 founder members and with the inclusion of more it will become now 18. 

 

 BOM, FC and Senate meetings:   The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed that the meetings of Board of Management Committee and Finance Committee have been fixed on 17th March, 2008 and the Senate meeting will be fixed in consultation with the Hon`ble Chancellor. 

 

Publications:  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor stressed the need of quality publication and informed that the publications published by the publishers have market value.  The Dean, Postgraduate Studies was made the Chairman of the University Publication Committee.  He will nominate other members in the Committee amongst the scientists from all the Colleges who have the potential for writing of good books. The Dean, PG will be the custodian of all the publication material. 

 

District Agriculture Plans:  A meeting of DAP was held recently and the teams of University scientists which have been constituted for the purpose will now move to the field for survey work. 

 

Crisis Management:  It was decided that there is no need to constitute a Crisis Management Group in the University and the University administration tackles very efficiently such situation as and when arises.

 

Kisan Mela, Organic Mega Events etc.:  The Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor informed that a Kisan Mela and Organic Mega Events will be organized in the end of April, 2008 in which the Hon`ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh will  invited. There is also a proposal to invite key speaker viz. Dr.R.B.Singh or Dr.M.S.Swaminathan on this occasion.  Stalls will be put up by the College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, College of Home Science, Govt. Departments and other agencies for the benefit of the visiting farmers.
