The faculty of the college participates in short-term and long-term training programmes organized by the Directorate of Extension Education in the fields of animal health and production for different target groups of the society. Extension literature related to animal husbandry is made available to the livestock owners at different fora like ‘Kisan Divas’, ‘Kisan Melas’ Vet - Fairs, Clinical camps and other state level fairs organized from time to time in different parts of the state.
Veterinary Clinical and Animal Health camps are organized in almost all the districts of the state from time to time. In each camp 50 to 100 animals were diagnosed for their illnesses, treated and operated upon. Animal keepers were advised regarding proper care of their animals for good heath and productivity. On an average 4 -5 such camps were organized every month.
Number, location and mission of various research and extension centers:
The university has three Regional Research Centers for research and extension activities in agriculture and animal husbandry. These are located at Bajaura, Dhaulakuan and Kukumseri and are equipped not only to undertake locations-specific research programmes but also have the components of Krishi Vigyan Kendras catering to the extension education programme of the local farming community for agriculture and animal husbandry. Each Regional Research Station is headed by an Associate Director, and a KVK by a Scientist Incharge. The University is also planning to have Veterinary Polyclinics at these Regional Research Stations. At this stage, there are also Veterinary and animal scientists in addition to agriculture and horticulture posted for extension education at Bajaura and Dhaulakuan who keep effectively engaged in extension education of the local farmers for livestock production and animal health programmes. Besides it, the specialized clinical camps are also organized on the request of the concerned scientists to render the specialized services of animal husbandry at the farmers door steps. The faculty members of the college are also actively engaged in various adhoc projects funded by ICAR, DBT, DST and Government of Himachal Pradesh.
Programme emphasis at each center:
The College does not have separate research centers but at each Regional Research Station and Sub Stations, due emphasis is given as per the needs of the local farming community.
Faculty involvement:
In addition to teaching, the faculty members are actively involved in research and extension programmes of the college.
Opportunities for students:
The PG students take up their thesis research work on either the thrust areas identified by the concerned department or in the ongoing approved adhoc research projects. They are fully involved in the research and extension activities of the department in which they are pursuing their PG programme.
Community outreach:
The various activities of the college that are the facilities for transferring animal husbandry technology among the farmers of the state are given below. The sole objective is to increase livestock production and to improve socio-economic status of the poor farmers.
Trainings: The College organizes short and long-term training programmes for different categories of clients, viz; field functionaries, officers of the state department of A.H. and other like departments, farmers, farm women, youth, ex-servicemen etc. Trainings pertaining to animal production technologies, rearing fish are common features.
Information and Publication:
Literature plays vital role in disseminating technological information among different categories of stakeholders. The unit of information and publication in the Directorate brings out the following publications which cover different topics relating to Veterinary Science:

3. Package of Practices.
4. Handouts and Pamphlets.

Exhibition:
The mobile Exhibition van of the Directorate of Extension Education has been effectively used to put up exhibitions relating to animal husbandry in important State and district level fairs like Kullu Dussehra, Mandi Shivratri fair, Palampur Holi fair, Renuka fair in Sirmour disctict. Besides, Kisan Mela at University headquarters and Vet-Fair in the Veterinary college are being organised regularly where state level exhibition is a regular feature.
Museum:
The museum of the university represents the activities of different departments of the veterinary college. Samples, charts, models, literature and live specimens are displayed to the visitors who belong to all sections of the society, including scientists, administrators, farmers, farm-women, students and other visitors from the state, India and abroad.
Media:
With the objective of projecting the college activities through print media, press notes, supplements/ features both in Hindi and English are issued to the leading daily News papers regularly and at important occasions.
Doordarshan & Radio talks:
Radio talks by scientists of the college on different aspects of animal production, health etc. are given regularly for the benefit of the farmers of the state.
