Broad Research areas:

·         Standardization of Natural Dye Extraction  and Application process on natural fibres from the locally available plant material.

·         Standardization and application of the natural printing paste with natural dyes on cotton and silk fabric.

·         Blending of wool and non-conventional fibres for the preparation of diversified products.

·         Optimization of various variables for water resistant fabric and product development for children and household use.

·         Extraction, processing and product development from the non-conventional fibres available in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

·         Estimation of Barrier properties of different fabrics available in market to pesticide residues during farm operations.

·         Wet processing of textile fabrics with natural products.

·         Designing, standardization and preparation of functional clothing for Atta chakki and wheat threshing workers.

·         Anti-microbial finishing of textile fabrics using locally available plant sources.

·         Diversification and popularization of ethnic craft i.e. Chamba Rumal of Himachal Pradesh.

·         Product diversification of traditional woollen fabrics of Himachal Pradesh.


 

 

Extension Activities:

 

Broad areas of Extension Activities:

 

  • Provide resource personnel for imparting short-term trainings to the farmers organized by the Directorate of Extension or other agencies from time to time.

  • Skill Development camps- on campus, off campus from time to time.

  • On and off campus skill enhancement trainings of hill  rural women for making them self reliant so that they can enhance the income of the family and better livelihood. The trainings are related to various aspects of Clothing and Textiles, which include

Tie and dye

  • Various types of textile surface enhancement techniques such as printing techniques, fabric painting

  • Fabric and garment embellishments

  • Soft toy making

  • Tips related to care and maintenance of sewing machine

  • Importance and method of taking correct anthropometric measurements

  • Stitching of children’s and adult garments

  • Dyeing with natural dyes and preparation of eco-friendly Holi Gulals etc.

  • On campus training for rural women are also arranged for skill development in tailoring techniques and natural dyeing             procedures.

  • Time to time radio talks on different topics related to textiles.

  • National Handloom Day celebration.

  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in college campus and adopted villages.

  • Reuse of discarded textile material through product diversification and value addition .

  • Awareness lectures to rural women and children on various aspects of clothing and textiles.
