Department of LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
Who Are we
The Department of Livestock Production Management is one of the key departments of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences responsible for teaching, research and extension mandates of the university. Besides, the department is also taking care of UG teaching in College of Agriculture and College of Home Science. Initially, the department was clubbed with the department of Animal Production and later on with the joining of faculty members during 1998, it started functioning as an independent department as per V.C.I. norms.
Mandates
- To impart education to the undergraduate students of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (as per VCI norms), College of Agriculture and College of Home Science in the discipline of Livestock Production Management.
- To develop package of practices for rearing different species of livestock for economic and efficient production especially in the hilly region of the state.
- To provide resource personnel for imparting short-term trainings to the farmers organized by the Directorate of Extension Education or other agencies, in the form of lectures, demonstrations, radio talks, TV talks, exhibitions etc.
- To provide consultancy services to the farmers of the state for efficient and quality production from different livestock species.
- To develop package of practices for different species of livestock in the state for economic and efficient production especially in the hilly region.
- Lectures/practical demonstrations on different aspect of Livestock Farming and scientific management for farmers, rural women and unemployed youth through various agencies including Directorate of Extension Education
- Radio talks at All India Radio, Shimla and Dharamshala and TV Talks from DD Shimla by the faculty members
- Participation in the Exhibitions / Kisan Melas.
- Consultancy services to farmers of the state
