Who Are we

Department of Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry is one of the basic Departments of Dr. GC Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences. The primary mandate of the department is to impart training to undergraduate (B. V. Sc. & A.H.) and post-graduate students in the fields of general, experimental, and specialized areas of veterinary physiology and biochemistry. The M.V.Sc. programme in Veterinary Physiology was introduced in the department from 1992-93 and in Veterinary Biochemistry from 2013-14. Doctorate programme in Veterinary Physiology started in 2013-14 session. Physiology and biochemistry are fundamental to an understanding of modern life science and all students need to study these subjects as major subsidiaries to their main disciplines of veterinary and animal science.

Department has established under graduate and post graduate laboratories with sophisticated equipment for electrocardiography; hematology, blood biochemical analysis, mineral estimations and molecular biology. The ultra modern equipments are used for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. In the field of research, department has carried out pioneering work in field of mineral status assessment, adaptation studies on migratory sheep, besides working on establishing physiological and biochemical profile of  hill livestock.
