Student’s Achievements
Who Are we
The department of veterinary Anatomy was one of the six departments that were originally set up to start the Veterinary College in July, 1986. The Master Programme was started in 1992-93 and eleven students so far have completed their M.V.Sc. degree. The Doctorate Programme was started in 2004 and five students have completed the Ph.D. degree in the department till date. The main objective of the department is to educate undergraduate (B. V. Sc. & A. H.) and postgraduate (M.V.Sc & Ph.D.) students in the field of Veterinary Anatomy, histology and embryology and its application in other fields. In addition to teaching the department worked on the Gross Anatomy, Histology and Histochemistry of different organ systems of local breeds of Himachal Pradesh viz. Gaddi sheep, Gaddi goat, Spiti horse and yak. The research work is focused on prenatal and post natal developmental studies of different organ systems of these species which are of importance in state ecomomy.
Our Strengths
- Efficient expertise and research facilities for histological, histochemical and embryological studies of domestic animals.
- Fundamental and applied anatomical research conducted on Yak, Gaddi goat, Gaddi sheep and Spiti ponies.
- Correlative Anatomical Studies on the Hypothalamo-Hypophysio-Gonadal Axis of Gaddi Doe.
- Establishment of baseline data on biochemical and mineral composition of foetal fluid.
- Prenatal studies conducted on Gaddi sheep and Gaddi goat to study histogenesis and normal development of different organs.
- Recognition of work at national level.
- Placement of students in different Government institutes/departments.
