Who Are we
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies came into existence in the year 1991 with the establishment of the then College of Home Science now College of Community Science. This department contributes to the well-being of individuals and families across the life course and in diverse contexts by generating knowledge; by preparing specialists for research, teaching, and extension activities; and by strengthening the interconnections of research, practice, and policy. We are dedicated to enhance the quality of rural and general masses which concerns with the developmental and psychological aspects of entire human life span. Major focus of our efforts is the quality enhancement of our programs as they concern to our future challenges and goals. The department is widely regarded as a leader in the study of children and families. This department imparts comprehensive program at the bachelor’s level emphasizing on professional teaching through audio visual techniques. Faculty conduct significant research on a range of critical issues facing individuals and families in today’s society. And the department employs innovative outreach efforts that extend knowledge to policymakers, professionals, and to the community.


Our Strengths
- The department has well equipped Laboratory Nursery School in the department for the children in the age group of 2 years ±6 months. The teacher student ratio is 1:15 with one helper. A total of 707 students have passed from Lab Nursery School.
- Department has its own well equipped Psychological Testing Laboratory with various scales on mental health, occupational stress, Intelligence, socio-emotional development, anxiety measurement etc. It is used by students (UG and PG) for survey work.
- Anganwadi Training Centre (AWTC) sanctioned by Government of India, is running in the department of HDFS, College of Community Science, CSKHPKV, Palampur since Nov 2011.
- Departmental Library is available to students, faculty and research staff.
- Development of skilled and efficient human resources with specialization in Insecticide Toxicology, Economic Entomology and Apiculture
- Undertaking research on management of insect pests, management of honey bees in hill & mountain agro-eco-region
- Extend knowledge and skill to the hill farmers through extension activities
