Our History

The College of Basic Sciences (COBS) initially started as a Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities with the inception of CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya. It attained the status of a full-fledged College in May, 1991. The College is located in the  beautiful Dhauladhar mountain range surrounded by pine forests near Palampur town, which  is a hill station and a municipal council in Kangra Valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The town derives its name from the local word palum, meaning “much water”. There are numerous streams flowing from the mountains to the plains from Palampur. Currently the College of Basic Sciences is one of the four constituent Colleges of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur. The dearth of quality education in “Basic Sciences” especially in the region leads to the ideology for setting up the College. The College caters to the needs of teaching and research in the disciplines of Basic Sciences and plays a key role in augmenting the teaching and research components of other three professional constituent colleges of the University.
