Dean's Message
The College of Agriculture, Palampur, nestled in the lap of majestic Dhauladhar range, is one of the most picturesque locations in this hilly state of Himachal Pradesh. This college has been a witness to the magnificent achievements that the state had made in the field of agriculture and allied activities during the past half a century. The alumni of this august institution has contributed at the state, national and international levels by manning positions in scientific, administrative, banking and alike fields. The college provides the best state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research that facilitate nurturing of the budding minds towards the profession that is most rendering for ‘the life on the planet earth’. The curricula of the academic programmes are regularly updated in conformity with the latest state and national happenings and developments. The college has a competent and vibrant faculty to prepare and train students for serving the mankind by augmenting food production in a sustainable manner. Our History
The College of Agriculture, Palampur, initially conceived to cater to the educational needs of far flung hilly areas of the then Punjab, was formally inaugurated by Dr. P.N, Thapar, ICS (Retd.), the first Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on 1″ August, 1966. The then Deputy Prime Minister of India, Shri Morarji Ranchorji Desai laid the foundation stone of the College building on 23″ May, 1967. With the reorganization of the Punjab on November 1, 1966, the College fell in the territorial jurisdiction of Himachal Pradesh. Nevertheless, it remained a part of Punjab Agricultural University till July 21, 1970 when the College became a part of the Agriculture Complex under the aegis of Himachal Pradesh University which comprised of the Agricultural Colleges at Palampur and Solan along with research stations situated at different places in Himachal Pradesh. It was a historic event when the College of Agriculture, Palampur served as the nucleus of Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya which came into existence by an Act of the H.P. Vidhan Sabha (HPKV Act, 1978) and was inaugurated on November 1, 1978 by the then President of India Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, The establishment of College of Agriculture, Palampur about 4 decades ago not only provided the quality human resource but has also given a big boost to the agriculture sector with many fold increase in food grain production of the state.
