About the Department

Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (formerly known as Veterinary Clinic) came in to existence in the June 1986 prior to the inception of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences by Dr.G.C.Negi, the founder Vice Chancellor of this college with a foresight to cater to the specific needs of the state for veterinary education and research in livestock health and production. The department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex was created on 16th May 2013. As one of the constituent departments and working unit of the college, this department is a Referral Veterinary Hospital and  service window of the university. It is a coordinating unit between clinical, para-clinical and supporting departments for teaching, providing material for research, platform for treatment of seriously sick animals and instant diagnostic facilities. The extension activities include animal health care at the doorstep of the farmers by organizing clinical camps, emergency and consultancy service and wildlife management of the state as well as round the clock treatment of ailing animals presented at clinics from different parts of Himachal Pradesh as well as adjoining states. It has become popular amongst pet owners in general and farmers in particular over a period of two decades. The department comprises of various sub units like-Treatment Section, Small Animal Examination Room, Dispensing Section, Computerized Registration Counter, Central Diagnostic Laboratory, Teaching Diagnostic Laboratory, Farmerís Rest Rooms, In door Wards, and two additional sections viz., Radiology and gynecology which provides specialized diagnostic, surgical and obstetrical services for small and large animals. This department is surging ahead with commitment towards the livestock farmers of Himachal Pradesh.

Keeping in view the need of the state, general awareness of the livestock owners, the need to provide the most advanced training to budding veterinarians and acute paucity of space in the present setup, an ĎAdvanced Multi-Disciplinary Veterinary Services and Farmers Capacity Building centre at Dr. GC Negi College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Palampur is coming up so as to provide the quality services to the farmers of the state of Himachal Pradesh .For which a budget of Rs 11 Crores was sanctioned  under RKVY. The work of this centre is in progress and likely to be completed by end of 2013.
