Tea Processing Unit

 

The unit was established during the year 2007 having capacity of manufacturing 50,000 kg tea. The funds were provided by ICAR under NATP project submitted by department of  tea Husbandry and Technology with outlay of Rs 31.35 lakhs with PI as Dr. D.K. Sharma Co PIs Dr K.L Sharma and Dr. Parmod Verma . Under the project entitled “Standardization of  Tea  processing technology in NW  India” the technology so generated is being applied for manufacture of black and green organic tea  on commercial scale which is attracting large number of consumers both in India and abroad.

Presently Dr. Parmod Verma executing the technology for large scale production of organic tea.
 
Dr. Parmod Verma is having more than 16years experience in tea plantation. He has done  M.Sc. in Tea Husbandry and Technology with specialization in tea processing and  Ph.D (Horticulture) with specialization in tea nutrition (Organic Tea). Dr Parmod Verma has also done MBA (marketing) with specialization in Tea marketing and consumer behavior and having more than 40 research and popular  publication on tea.  
 


NATURAL ORGANIC KANGRA TEA (DHAULADHAR)

Launched by Hon'able Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 30th May, 2008


 
 
Kangra Tea is grown in lower slopes of Dhauladhar range of North-West Himalayas in Palampur situated at latitude 32º. 6I N and 76º. 3I E under mid hill temperate zones with a moderate hot summer and cold  winter with mean minimum and maximum temperature 17.8ºC and 27.6ºC respectively  and annual rainfall  of 2500mm during the plucking  period (April- October)
 
Distinct features of  Kangra Natural Organic Tea   “Dhauladhar”

  • Has stylish appearance, good liquor and distinctive flavour.

  • Has higher antioxidant potential than grape juice and red wine

  • This tea has higher anti-oxidant like epigallocatechin (EGC) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which are predominant catechins as compared to other tea growing regions of India

  • This tea is free from agro-chemical residues.
